Junior Section

JUNIORS (8-17 years)

After completion of coaching, kids aged 8-17 inclusive may play on the full size Green and enter some of the Club hats and internal competition days, depending on their age and ability.

Every year we promote the Club in schools and local community groups to show what the Club has to offer Juniors - a safe place to learn a new sport, meet new friends and hopefully become proficient enough to enter internal and external competitions.  Lawn bowls is a sport for all ages and you will never forget the skills you learn.

Junior Fees

Our annual membership subion for Juniors is only £10.

Annual Junior Championships

Every year, numbers permitting, we hold a one day Junior Championship competition, usually end August / early September with a round robin format.

There are two age categories which roughly correspond to primary and secondary school ages:

  • Walker Plate Championship - age 11 years and older on the Opening Day of the current season
  • Junior Ace Championship - under 11 years on the Opening Day of the current season

Artificial Green for little Juniors (under 8s)

The club invested in an artificial green especially for our younger bowlers under the age of 8 but must be supervised by a guardian.  We have some foam bowls for the little ones to use.

We have a selection of children's bowls that our Juniors can use to practice including foam bowls for the artifical green.  We also have some targets, wedges and cones that can make things more fun.

JUNIOR CAPTAIN

Hannah McGrory is our Junior Captain.  Although only 21 years old, Hannah has been bowling for 11 years. She has won the Bowls Scotland’s Under 25 District Singles twice, currently plays for the Fife Under 25 County Team and the West Fife Ladies County Team. She also won a bronze medal in the Bowls Scotland Youth Triples.

Hannah is a qualified coach, having attended the Bowls Scotland Introduction to Bowls Coaching training course.  She will liaise with all associations concerning Junior competitions in order to ensure a consistent approach and provide our Juniors with the most up to date information in a timely manner.

JUNIOR COACHING

We hold group Junior coaching sessions on Monday afternoons 3.30-4.30pm (during term time) or Wednesday mornings 10.30am-11.30am (during summer holidays).

We try to vary our sessions and have a selection of training aids - targets, wedges, cones etc. that we use to keep things fun.

Where possible, please let us know if you are coming so we can plan accordingly.

Jim Smith is our Coaching Coordinator and his contact details can be found on the Contact Us page.

JUNIOR EXTERNAL COMPETITIONS (Bowls Scotland, West Fife, Sports Council etc.)

A programme of external development sessions are being provided by Bowls Scotland District 8 Youth Coordinator Sophie McGrouther.  Sophie has lots of experience having started playing bowls herself age 10 and has worked her way up to playing in international squads and winning national titles.

These sessions are designed to get our young bowlers used to playing competitively and build up their confidence with experience of playing at a higher level.

More information can be found on the following Facebook group: Facebook/District 8 Young Bowlers

Please visit the Ladies (& Mixed) Section page as this also includes some Junior (under 25) and mixed competitions.
