Bowls Scotland is divided into 32 districts with each district holding qualifying knockout competitions to determine the winner of that district.
Following the qualifiers, each of the 32 District champions from each category will compete in the annual National Championship at Northfield, Ayr in July to determine the overall Scottish Champions.
Dalgety Bay is in District 8 which has a total of 34 member clubs covering the South Fife area from Thornton in the east to Valleyfield in the west, from Leslie in the north to Inverkeithing in the south.
The categories are as follows, with separate ladies and gents competitions (apart from mixed pairs):
- Group A – Singles, Pairs, Triples & Fours
- Group B – Over 55 Singles & Over 55 Fours
- Group C - Mixed Pairs
- Group D – Under 25 Singles
Unless otherwise stated below, players can only enter ONE category.
Singles (max. 2 entries per club)
- Each player will play four bowls, first to score 21 shots
- Can also enter Group C, Group D or 1 from Group B (age dependent)
Junior Singles
- Must be aged under 25 on 1st April of that year
- Each player will play four bowls, first to score 21 shots
- Can also enter group C and 1 from Group A)
Senior Singles
- Must be 55 years of age or over on the 1st April of that year
- Each player will play four bowls, first to score 21 shots
- Can also enter Group C and 1 from Group A
Pairs (max. 2 entries per club)
- Each player will play four bowls over 17 ends, with an extra end(s) if required
- Can also enter Group C, Group D or 1 from Group B (age dependent)
Mixed Pairs (max. 2 entries per club)
- Both players must be members of the entering club.
- Each player will play four bowls over 17 ends, with an extra end(s) if required
- Can also enter in 1 from Group A, Group D or 1 from Group B (age dependent)
Triples (max. 1 entry per club)
- Each player will play three bowls over 15 ends, with an extra end(s) if required
- Three players must play at all times
- Can also enter Group C, Group D or 1 from Group B (age dependent)
Fours (max. 1 entry per club)
- Each player will play two bowls over 17 ends, with an extra end(s) if required
- Four players must play at all times
- Can also enter Group C, Group D or 1 from Group B (age dependent)
Senior Fours
- Each player will play two bowls over 15 ends, with an extra end(s) if required
- All players must be 55 years of age or over on the 1st April of that year
- Four players must play at all times
- Can also enter Group C and 1 from Group A
