Solar Panel Project

The Management Committee of Dalgety Bay Bowling Club made the decision to install solar panels with a back-up battery in order to save money on rising energy costs as well as reduce our carbon footprint.

Whilst looking into the possibility of support in the form of grant funding, we were put in contact with Local Energy Scotland who deliver the Scottish Government’s Community and Renewable Energy Scheme (CARES) who in turn support communities to engage with, participate in and benefit from the transition to net zero emissions.

The advice and support we received from Local Energy Scotland’s local development officer, Ruth Dickinson, was first class and she helped us with every aspect of our grant application.  The outcome was an 80% grant, amounting to £11,378 incl. VAT, towards the cost of our project which was installed in November 2023.

With the installation of the panels and back-up battery, the saving for the club in electricity costs at current prices are estimated to be more than £1500 per annum and this does not take into account any excess electricity that the club can feed back into the grid for which a payment will be received.  Based on these current figures, the payback period for the club’s contribution to the installation will be just over two years.

A wide variety of local communities and charity organisations may be eligible for CARES support and as we are a registered Community Amateur Sports Club (CASC), we were eligible to apply for funding.  If you think you may be eligible then please do not hesitate to contact Local Energy Scotland https://localenergy.scot/funding/

Due to the success of the solar panels, we have subsequently added more to the main clubhouse roof.
